During the summer of 2015, I was fortunate enough to go on vacation to Costa Rica with my family. I remember how excited I was to take this trip since it was going to be the first time we would visit another country apart from Mexico. Before we left I made sure I did enough background information on where we were going and general information on Costa Rica. Apart from doing background information, I was also compiling a playlist in my mind for all music I was planing to listen to in-between traveling. I was ultimately prepared for this trip and my playlist showed it.
All of the music I picked really gave that sort "day dreaming" vibe that everyone has experienced here and there. I had a bit of Phoenix, The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys, and many more under my playlist, but I had to include one song in particular that really improved my trip to Costa Rica. That song was 'Picture' by Ninth Paradise, it was a must have for any type of traveling you do. Their whole album "Ninth Paradise" is pretty much solid, but 'Picture' is on a whole new level.
In Costa Rica we stayed at Playa Del Coco (on the pacific side of Costa Rica) which is about 2 - 2 1/2 hours away from the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose. In-between those 2 - 2 1/2 hours of driving, there consist of dreamlike landscape full of green jungle vegetation, ethereal black beaches, and small joyful towns. On the way from San Jose to Playa Del Coco I didn't really come to appreciate all of this, but that changed on our way back. It's kind of hard to describe what I was feeling during that trip back to San Jose (to catch our flight), but it was full of sad nostalgic memories.

Along our drive I kept playing Ninth Paradise's 'Picture', which brought that needed energy (I guess?) of escaping reality for one more day. As I gazed out the car window, the song made everything look much more beautiful. Every green hill was filled with more color, the sky was blissful, and our vacation felt more meaningful. I don't know how Ninth Paradise really made the effort to really bring these feelings out, maybe it was the dreamy distorted guitar or reverbed vocals? I don't know, but it didn't matter because I had the song pretty much looped for almost half the trip.
Considering Ninth Paradise consist of 2 guys, they don't disappoint in bringing the energy of a full 4-5 person band. They manage to get their guitar to be the missing members of the band, which is something I've never come across before. It's a perfect combination of shoegaze and meaningful music wrapped up together to form a unique sound they can call their own. You can expect their whole album to sound like this, but 'Picture' sums up their the best of their sound.
Would I recommend the song to anybody? Hell yes. Ever since I found this jem since early 2015, I been hooked on their unique sound. I can say it safely holds a place in my music folder, which only consist of the music I really enjoy. It's one of those songs that is a must have for whenever out traveling the world or just going for a walk around the neighborhood. It's been almost 2 years, I still listen to song daily! It brings that needed escape of reality we all need.
